Didi's "I Can't Believe You Used Up My Whole Box of Cheerios" Squares

My daughter Adiya (AKA Didi) adores Cheerios. No one else is allowed to eat out of her box. God help any one of her sisters if they eat some of HER Cheerios. Since she's a picky kid and has the temper of Rosemary's Baby, we let her get away with this, better than picking a fight. Anyway... one day when she was out at a friend's house I came across this recipe in a magazine, and the urge just took over, and I broke into one of Didi's sacred boxes of Cheerios. You should have heard that kid shriek. Still, she shut up pretty quickly when I jammed one of these into her mouth. Now we each have our own box of Cheerios, and got help anyone else in the family who steals even on "O"!

This is my second attempt at leaving feedback for this recipe. It's a winner and I predict my daughter will be very happy--if there are any left by the time she gets home from school.

I had a serious problem with this recipe. I did not discover until after I was finished making it that some totally incompetent bozo at the margarine packaging plant had put a whole bunch of margarine into boxes marked “butter”. I hope these idiots realize what an inconvenience they caused me, because now I am going to be forced to eat this whole tray of squares and then make them yet again (this time using the right ingredient, of course) in order to determine if they really do taste any worse made with margarine than with butter. Hell, for that matter, I’ll probably be forced to make a third batch with ghee, also for taste comparison purposes. By that time, I’ll have forgotten what they tasted like with unsalted butter, so I might feel obligated to make ‘em with butter again. Vicious circle, isn’t it?

This treat was a huge hit at my office party! I had several comments about it being healthier than Rice Crispy treats, and many came back for seconds. I did all the melting in the microwave and used super chunky pb, and from start to finish, it took around 10 minutes--quick results--my kind of cooking! Thanks Mirjam.
