Igor's Crackers (Raw Foods)

From Victoria Boutenko's 12 Steps to Raw Foods. I haven't tried it yet and I have to give the library book back. I read in their newsletter that they tossed some crumbs from these crackers outside for the birds and in the spring flax started growing on the spot. Now that's live food!

25 -32 crackers (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Grind the flaxseed in a dry Vita-Mix blender. (Or do the best you can with a more wimpy blender. i.e. the kind I have.).
  2. 2
Put that into a large bowl and put the rest of the ingredients into the blender and blend.
  3. 3
Mix all ingredients in the big bowl.
  4. 4
Cover dough with a towel and let sit in a warm area overnight to ferment slightly.
  5. 5
Use a spatula to spread dough onto non-stick dehydrating sheets and divide it into squares.
  6. 6
Dehydrate until just dry if you want it to be bread-like. Dehydrate longer for crispy crackers that will keep for a couple months.

These turned out really well!!!! I didn't have caraway seed on hand, so I omitted it, but will definitly try with next time....Super easy to make and are wonderful topped with cashew "cheese" or guacamole.....I didn't make mine crispy like a traditional cracker, so they came out with more of a chewy texture, which I actually really liked.....Great healthy recipe!!!! Thank you so much for posting it.....

!!! I read the same book A great read & a great recipe...the crackers come out perfect...I love the wonderful flavor w/ the caraway seeds...I skipped the tomato this time but may at some point give that a try (if my home grown EVER turn reddish {lol} ) I got 3 round trays (2.5 really) -using the flex(y) sheets in 2 and parchment paper in one, try both if you can...neat subtle difference in the way the cracker set up oh, I grind my flax in my coffee grinder thing that I have had for about 15 years... it came as a bonus with a coffee machine (...and a husband...that's another story...)- for the rest I used my food processor and hand mixed the seeds...my drying time went about 8 hours give or take & yield just about 30...LOVED THEM !! YUMMY NEW SNACK!! they disappear FAST in my house- thanks mliss for sharing another great recipe find... LOVE LIVE!
