White Velvet Cutout Cookies

This is my favorite cutout "sugar" cookie recipe. It is from "A Taste of Home". The cream cheese adds something very special to this recipe. They are best when taken from the oven just before they begin to brown.

SERVES 42 , 7 dozen (change servings and units)

Directions

    In a mixing bowl, cream butter and cream cheese for cookies until light and fluffy. Add sugar, egg yolks and vanilla; mix well. Gradually add flour.

    Cover and chill for 2 hours or until firm.
  3. 3
    Roll out on floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into shapes; place 1 inch apart on greased baking sheets. (Or use parchment paper.).

    Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until set (not browned). Cool for 5 minutes on pan; remove to wire racks to cool.

    For frosting, combine 1 1/2 cups sugar, butter, shortening, vanilla, and 3 tablespoons of milk in a mixing bowl; beat until smooth.

    Gradually add remaining sugar ; beat until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.

    Add enough remaining milk and food coloring until frosting reaches desired consistency.

This is an excellent sugar cookie! The cream cheese definitely adds a nice dimension to the flavor. Thanks for posting this - I will be using this recipe for my holiday cookies! Made for PAC Fall '08
