Cherry-Chocolate Cookies

Ingredients

• 2/3 cup softened butter
• 3/4 cup sugar
• 1 egg
• 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
• 1 2/3 cups flour
• 6 tablespoons cocoa
• 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
• 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/8 teaspoon salt
• 36 maraschino cherries, halves

Icing

• 2 tablespoons sugar
• 2 tablespoons water
• 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions

   Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

   Cream butter, 3/4 cup sugar, egg, and vanilla in bowl until light and fluffy.

   Add mixture of flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt; mix well.

   Shape into 1 inch balls.

   Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.

   Press cherry half into center of each cookie.

   Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes or until almost set.

   Cool on wire rack.

   Combine 2 tablespoons sugar and 2 tablespoons water in saucepan.

    Cook over medium heat until sugar dissolves.

    Remove from heat and add chocolate chips.

    Stir until chocolate melts.

    Frost tops of cookies, leaving cherries unfrosted.
