This recipe is adapted from one in the wonderful French culinary encyclopedia, "Larousse Gastronomique." It is delicious and pretty to look at.

4 -6 cups (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Melt together over low heat just 1 cup of the milk with all the chocolate. Bring to a slow, rolling boil.
  2. 2
While the mixture is boiling, use a separate saucepan to heat the rest of the milk with the white sugar. Whisk it for several minutes or until the sugar has dissolved. Combine with chocolate mixture and keep on medium heat.
  3. 3
On high speed, beat together the whipping cream and vanilla. Beat in the confectioners' sugar, and continue beating briefly just until the whipped cream forms soft peaks.
  4. 4
Remove the chocolate from the heat, and divide into cups. Top each cup with a generous dollop of whipped cream and serve. Enjoy!
  5. 5
Makes about 4 cups, to serve 4 to 6.

Sharon, this is just so delicious! So far, the coffee/chocolate drink recipes I've tried from you are just soooo good! In this one, the cream itself has a sweet vanilla taste which makes it unique as to just plain whipped cream toppings. Mine didn't have stiff peaks though so I guess I should have chilled them longer but it still was creamy I even spooned some of the cream topping and had it before stirring and drinking the whole chocolatey drink. Wowza~! Thank you! Made for WZT4..

Loved it! Sharon, this is the real deal - thick, rich and creamy, positively decadent! I cheated and used canned whipped cream and made it in the microwave. Thanks for posting, made for ZWT, please see my rating system as I rate tougher than most.
