Everyone always requests this for Birthday parties and special occasions. Very flavorful, and SO much better than the canned or packaged recipes. A favorite family recipe.

Ingredients

  • lbs hamburger
  • cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1/3 cup celery, finely chopped
  • cup catsup (I use Hunts)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • tablespoons lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • tablespoon brown sugar
  • teaspoons worcestershire sauce
  • teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
  • teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 12 plain hamburger bun
  • Directions

    1. 1
      Brown hamburger; drain fat. Saute onion and celery till tender. Add rest of ingredients and stir till combined well. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer on low heat covered for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Serve on hamburger buns.
