Shrimp and Scallops Au Gratin

Mouth watering dish first tried at the San Francisco warf. Serve over rice or with a loaf of french bread. Tip to preparation, have everything cut, chopped and measured ahead of time as it goes fast, but easy.

Ingredients

  • lb large scallop
  • lb medium shrimp or prawns
  • medium white mushroom
  • 1/8 cup diced onion
  • 4 minced garlic clove
  • tablespoons butter
  • 1/3-1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese
  • tablespoons dry sherry
  • Accent seasoning
  • tablespoon salt
  • 1/2 tablespoon pepper
  • paprika, for good color on top
  • cream sauce

      1. Saute onions and garlic in butter over medium heat for 3 minutes.

      2. Add scallopes,shrimp, mushrooms, accent, salt & pepper, stiring to mix well. Be sure to salt and pepper to your tastes. My amounts may be to heavy for some.

      3. Start cream sauce by melting butter in medium sauce pan, mix in flour slowly & cook for 2 minutes.

      4. Add half n half slowly and stir constantly til very thick, set aside.

      5. Scallopes and shrimp should be stired occationally and will be done by the time the cream sauce is done. Add sherry and grated sharp cheddar cheese to the scallopes and shrimp and stir in, then add cream sauce and mix it well until cheese is melted.

      6. Pour into large casserole dish or individual serving dishes, sprinle with cracker crumbs & paprika and bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes or til golden.

    This recipe is just OK: it's rather bland and the flavors do not stand out. It might taste better on angel hair pasta; we served it on brown rice.
