Broccoli With Cheese Sauce

I wonderful broccoli side dish.

SERVES 4 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

    Place broccoli and water in a microwave-safe bowl.
  2. 2
    Cover and microwave on high for 3-5 minutes or until tender.
  3. 3
    In a saucepan, whisk the cornstarch, seasonings and milk until smooth.
  4. 4
    Bring to a boil over medium heat, cook and stir for 1-2 minutes or until thickened.
  5. 5
    Add in the cheddar cheese and Worcestershire sauce and stir until cheese is melted.
  6. 6
    Drain the broccoli and top with cheese sauce.

    On the plus side this sauce has the perfect consistency, is quick and easy to make, and is healthier than the traditional roux based cheese sauce. The problem for us was the worcestershire sauce, which just didn't work with the brocolli for our tastes. I would definitely try this again and just leave that ingredient out. So sorry Nichol! Made for I Recommend Tag Game, please see my rating system as I rate tougher than most.

    This was quick and easy. It had been a long day and I needed a quick side dish for some baked tilapia. This broccoli recipe is so simple, I had plenty of time to get it together while the fish was baking. Very satisfying and a new addition to my "Let's Eat Now" recipe book!
