"need a Pick-Me-Up" Banana Peanut Butter Smoothie (No

Recipe #276865 | 10 min | 5 min prep | add private note

I love coffee but I have come to accept the fact that coffee just does not love me back (headaches, upset stomach, etc.) Sooo, this is the recipe I reach for when I need a healthy pick-me-up in the morning. It is peanut buttery, and slightly chocolatey. Enjoy.

SERVES 1 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
    Cut banana into chunks.
  2. 2
Combine 1/3 banana chunks and milk and use hand blender or regular blender to mix well. I use a hand blender and blend in a hard plastic cup. Slowly add rest of banana and blend.
  3. 3
    Add peanut butter. Blend well.
  4. 4
Add cocoa powder and push powder underneath liquid so as to not splatter when turning on blender.
  5. 5
    Blend well.
  6. 6
    Enjoy!

Fantastic! I used a cup of skim milk and it was still great.

I tried this recipe as written, and I didn't like it very much at all... the peanut butter taste was too strong for me, and the cocoa gave it an acrid flavor. I decided to try it again with a few tweaks... I added a few ice cubes and 1/4 c water to "dilute" the flavor some, used just a teaspoon of peanut butter and a scant teaspoon of cocoa powder, and added a couple of packets of Splenda to counter the bitter taste. It worked out, so this recipe was a great jumping board for me! Thanks for posting.

I used this for a perk-me-up afternoon snack for my son before soccer practice! He loves it! He especially loves the little bits of banana through-out. Thanks for a great idea! (Made for Zaar Cookbook Tag Game 2008.)
