Pumpkin Bread

Recipe #267941 | 1¼ hours | 15 min prep | add private note

By: Bunlady
Nov 26, 2007

This is my favorite quick bread. The recipe was passed on to our family from a neighbor when I was a child. This is the only recipe that I have ever used and I always get rave reviews. If you don't like dates or nuts they can be omitted but I think that is what makes the bread so good. The dates will cook up and most people don't even know they are in there. Great for the holidays.

SERVES 24 , 3 loaves (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Cream togeter sugar, shortening, eggs, pumpkin and water. Add spices and all other dry ingredients. This will make a heavy batter that I usually mix with a spoon instead of mixer. Add chopped dates and nuts.
  2. 2
    Pour into greased loaf pans.
  3. 3
Makes 2 large loaves and 3 med loaves. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees.
