Healthy Baked Corn Tortilla Chips (Homemade)

Recipe #263512 | 15 min | 5 min prep | add private note

A wonderful healthy snack and a great way to use up leftover corn tortillas. Great with Easy Authentic Guacamole or for making nachos. A reviewer recommended paprika instead of parmesan and I do this often now as well! VARIATION: If you need more healthy oils in your diet, poor a tablespoon or two of light olive oil on your cookie sheet, sprinkle with salt and rub both sides of each tortilla until well coated (you can rub them together too to spread the oil thin), then proceed with recipe.

SERVES 3 , 30 chips (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Optional Toppings (choose any combination below)

Sweet Toppings

Directions

  1. 1
    Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. 2
Stack tortillas one on top of the other and cut them into 6 slices like you would cut up a pizza.
  3. 3
Spread them out on a heavy cookie sheet (not air-bake) in a single layer, spacing them at least 1/4-1/2" apart (spacing them too close together will cause them to be chewy instead of crispy). If you must use an air-bake pan, try 350 degrees for 20 minutes.
  4. 4
    Shake desired toppings over tortillas.
  5. 5
Bake 8-12 mins or until chips are starting to get crispy and slightly golden brown at the edges (check every 1-2 minutes after 8 mins).
  6. 6
Remove from oven and let cool 5-10 mins before serving in order to let them fully crispen. (I like to make these the night beforehand so they are extra crispy.).

Although I was a little heavy-handed with the cayenne, these were fabulous. Easy to make with great results. Will definitely make these again. Thanks for sharing this keeper.

I love buying those packages of like 50 corn tortillas for $1! LOL! These make great chips for the kids to munch on! Make sure and keep them in a single layer so they all cook evenly. My son actually prefers these to regular chips in bags (like doritoes). Sometimes I sprinkle on some hidden valley ranch dry mix, taco seasoning mix, etc. Thanks for sharing!

What an easy, tasty recipe! These came out great - super crunchy, not too salty. I didn't have cayenne on hand so I used paprika for color. I can't wait to try them with a little cayenne and maybe some lime juice. Thank you for posting!
