Fast and Fabulous Fake out Calzones

Recipe #261422 | 27 min | 15 min prep | add private note

All the calzone taste without all of the work! Watching Rachael Ray make her version inspired me to share mine with you! PLEASE use whatever toppings you like. The more add ins the better this is! Like RR says- this is more a method than a recipe! Play with your food and make this with the things you like to eat!

SERVES 4 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Optional add ins you may like

Directions

  1. 1
Heat the oven to 325 degrees F.
  2. 2
Split the Kaiser rolls making the bottom larger than the top. Scoop some of the white soft insides out of the bottoms to make room for your filling. Reserve the tops.
  3. 3
Mix salt and pepper, to taste, meat and grated cheese into ricotta. (NOTE: Feel free to add some veggies here. You could leave the meat out if you like and just use veggies! Think of the toppings or calzone fillings you would normally eat and use those. Mushrooms work great here as well as spinach, green peppers, onions, etc.).
  4. 4
Fill the rolls with the ricotta mixture.
  5. 5
Cover the ricotta with mozzarella, tomato and basil.
  6. 6
Place reserved roll top in place and bake 10 to 12 minutes, just to heat through and melt the cheese.
  7. 7
Cut and serve with optional garnishes of crushed red pepper flakes and parmesan cheese.

Fantastic Mama!!!!! The only change I did was to add some marinara sauce to the ricotta cheese. I also served them with more sauce for dipping. I love the crunchiness of the rolls (I used french bread rolls) and the cheesiness of the filling!!!! YUMMO!!!!
