Butter Cream Icing (Buttercream Frosting)

Recipe #261024 | 12 min | 12 min prep | add private note
Marg (CaymanDesigns)

I use Decorator Buttercream Icing when I'm decorating a cake but we like this version on brownies, cookies or undecorated cakes. I cut the recipe in half for brownies.

3 1/2 cups (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Cream butter and then add vanilla and optional salt. (To cut the sweetness I usually sprinkle some salt in the vanilla, so it will dissolve.).
  2. 2
Add sugar a cup at a time beating on medium speed. Add milk 1 Tbls. at a time and beat on high until completely blended and desired consistency.

This was very good, but it seamed a bit too thick for spreading on my cake. I'll try again with more milk added.

I followed the recipe except for the salt and I used a whole bag of confectioners sugar (32 oz) that I bought. Not sure if it comes out to 5 cups but made plenty for a two layer 9 inch cake with some left over. I used my Kitchen aid and it fluffed up the icing real nice. This will be my standard icing that I will go to for a reference.

This icing is delicious. I halved the recipe and used it to frost Pound Cake Cookies. I still had just a little bit of icing left over.
