Aztec Hot Chocolate Mix

Recipe #259980 | 10 min | 5 min prep | add private note

This recipe comes from Gifts from the Southwest Kitchen. The spiced chocolate mix is reminiscent of the popular Mexican varieties. This makes 10 servings or can be divided into individual servings (1/4 cup each) and given as a gift with a nice mug. Update: Annacia just Zamiled me that she has now mixed this with hot coffee with excellent results for a nice mocha.

Great hot choc mix! DH took a jar into the office to use in their less than exceptional coffee. He reports that it really perks things up. I will use this all winter. Thanks Paula!

I enjoyed the taste with the spice and chocolate and it's sure easy to put together. I used the Vita Mix to blend the powders and that worked very well, the mix came out very fine and smooth with Splenda for the sugar. The only thing I'm not crazy about is that even though it was very well blended it still made a lot of small globs in the bottom of the cup when the water was added. They wouldn't "melt" no matter how much I stirred.*UPDATE*: I have discovered that this mix makes a delightful mocha and with the coffee as a mixer there are no wee globs at all!

MMMMMM Chocolate! This is really good and has just become my new hot cocoa recipe. I read Annacia's review regarding the "globs" forming in the bottom of the cup, so I used a little splash of the boiling water and stirred it in to make a paste before adding the rest ... no lumps! I also tried it as a mocha mix ... delicious!
