Cinnamon Swirl Bread That Actually Works!

Recipe #250385 | 1¼ hours | 25 min prep | add private note

After many failed attempts at cinnamon swirl bread I came up with this one

SERVES 10 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Mix both yeast and water together and proof.
  2. 2
mix together sugar, butter, eggs, milk, and proofed yeast.
  3. 3
Add 1 1/2 cups of flour and mix well.
  4. 4
add the rest of the dough until a stiffish dough forms, cover and let rest for a few minutes then knead for about 5-10 minutes until soft.
  5. 5
Cover and let rise until doubled in a greased bowl, punch down and let rise again.
  6. 6
Then roll dough out into a rectangle then brush with a little bit of butter.
  7. 7
Sprinkle with sugar cinnamon and nutmeg to taste then roll up jelly roll style.
  8. 8
Place in a greased bread pan, or cookie tray and bake for 30-45 minutes at 375 F or until when tapped it sounds hollow.
  9. 9
Cover if the top is browning too fast, when you take it out of the oven you may brush the top with extra butter to make a softer crust. Also you may freeze the cooked loaf and re heat in oven covered in foil until thawed and it taste just as good.

What a wonderfully textured bread! I could have rolled mine a bit tighter, I think, but sure tasted good! I am going to used some to make French toast! UPDATE: Took some of this on our RV trip and made great French toast with it. Topped with Coffeebarista's Harvest Pumpkin Butter .

Super yummy bread! I rose it for the first rising overnight in the fridge then rolled it out in the morning and used 1/4 c. butter, 1/4 c. brown sugar, 1 t. korintje cinnamon. It took me 1/2 c. more flour when mixing. Oohs and aaahs around the table this morning! Thank you!!

We liked this and it does make terrific toast. I'll admit it was my first bread without using a bread machine at all, so take this review for what it is. I wasn't sure how much spice and sugar to sprinkle so I kinda covered the whole thing with a light coating and I definately could have used more, especially with the sugar. This took about 20 minutes to rise and I did have to add a bit more flour to be able to knead it so it didn't stick to my hands. Again this could have been due to my lack of experience. Overall I am very pleased with how this came out and I did have a wonderful little swirl of cinnamon throughout the loaf!

This turned out beautifully! Nicely risen loaf with a golden-brown crust and lovely swirl of cinnamon inside. I found it easy to make, and used a glass loaf pan, which took 30 minutes. Raisins would make a nice variation for those that like them. No doubt this will make delicious French toast as well. Thanks for posting!
