Whine & Jerk Grilled Fruit Salad

Recipe #234874 | 25 min | 15 min prep | add private note

Invented for the Caribbean Grilling Challenge Zaar World Tour 3 by the Whine & Cheese Gang. This is a sweet-hot, spicy salad but the dressing is cooling to the tongue while still being perky from the lime. An adventure for your palate! Feel free to swap fruits around to suit yourself.

SERVES 4 -6 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

dressing

Directions

  1. 1
Very, very lightly schmear the pineapple, mango, papaya & peach with the jerk seasoning. A little goes a LONG way! Unless you like blistering spice, that is.
  2. 2
Grill both sides until heated through & have nice grill marks. Let cool slightly then cut into bite sized pieces. Place in a medium bowl.
  3. 3
Add the rest of the fruit & stir gently.
  4. 4
Combine well the yogurt, lime zest & juice, sugar & salt. Add to the salad and stir together gently until well combined.

I've never had anything jerk flavoured before so was quite excited to try it. I used my Jamaican Jerk Paste that I posted just for the tour. It's winter here so I used mainly seasonal ingredients but used the jerk paste on the pineapple & peaches. I was quite surprised the heat of the paste & the sweetness of the fruit go really well together & the lime yoghurt refreshing on the palate.

In all fairness I am not going to rate this. It started at a definite disadvantage with me...since I am not, in general, a fan of jerk flavoring and don't like mangos much. But I thought I would give both one more try. It is a very pretty salad; I do like the dressing and undoubtedly will use it on other fruit salads. The very-slightly jerked grilled pineapple, by itself, was delicious. The recipe is creative; I applaud your entry in ZWT3.

This was very different. I used pineapple, mango, strawberries and blueberries. I liked the combo of the spice with some of the fruit (like the pineapple and mango, but I found it a little off putting with the berries (especially the blueberries). Loved the dressing though! Thanks guys!

When I first tasted this salad, I wasn't quite sure if I liked it or not. So...I tasted some more, and some more...and well I ended up eating about 3/4 of the entire recipe! Made without strawberries because the grocery was out of them and the only thing I didn't add to the sauce was the zest of the lemon...it's a phobia of mine, don't ask. Oh, and I didn't cut everything up after grilling, just placed on a plate, dumped the sauce in the middle and went to town! I really like the little "wang" of heat you get after a bite. Hmmm...maybe I should taste test the rest, just to be sure....
