Fried Egg and Cheese Sandwich

Recipe #215911 | 5 min | 5 min prep | add private note

This is an old family favorite. I have added a little heat to it with the pepper flakes. Fried onions are also a nice option to make it a little special. Try it with a little Thousand Island Dressing. Cheddar cheese is fine but Cheez Whiz does the trick!

SERVES 1 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
    Melt margarine in frying pan.
  2. 2
Add egg (don't break the yolk, but if you do that is alright too!).
  3. 3
    Gently fry the egg.
  4. 4
Sprinkle the egg with the salt, black pepper and red pepper flakes. (if you don't like hot, leave them off).
  5. 5
Flip the egg over. I like the yolk to be a bit soft. Polk the yolk after you have turned the egg so that a bit of the yolk seeps out.
  6. 6
Spread the Cheez Whiz on one side of the bread.
  7. 7
Put the egg on the bread and top with the other slice of bread. (I like the side with the pepper flakes to meet the Cheez Whiz).
  8. 8
Return the sandwich to your fryng pan and grill until golden, flip over and grill the other side. (I don't butter the sandwich before frying).
  9. 9
    Enjoy!

For a Fried Egg Sandwich this is pretty good. I usually don't have such a heavy calorie/fat/carb lunch, but I just had to try one when I made this for Hubby. Thanks for posting! Made for the I Recommend Tag game.

This technique is fantastic! Imagine, using the same pan for frying and grilling..saves so much time! The ingredients are also what we usually have on hand. I used Bulgarian cheese and opted out on the pepper flakes. I'm going to make another one. Thanks, Laffer! Made for Veggie swap.

This was a special treat, because Dad HATES the smell of fried eggs and complains piteously whenever anyone in the house makes one (I picked a day when he wasn't going to be home all day). I used oat nut bread (toasted and buttered, because that's how I like it), Kraft Singles for the cheese (didn't have any Cheez Whiz on hand, thought Kraft singles were the next best thing), and Heinz Hot and Spicy Ketchup (I don't care for Thousand Island dressing). I probably cooked my egg more than most, too, since I prefer my egg yolk fully cooked. I had to make a second sandwich once Gram smelled the egg cooking, because she loves fried eggs and never gets to eat them because of Dad. Very good sandwich, thanks for posting!
