Turnips became popular in Ireland as human food during the great famine and have remained popular. I especially like this combination of turnip and onion. Easy and economical to serve

This is wonderful! Used turnips instead, and much less fat than called for. My 6 year old could be heard asking for more, and my picky 8 year old ate them without any issue (though he didn't want more). An interesting texture, plus the yummy onions.

I'd never had rutabagas before, but when I saw it was named "Irish Rutabagas" I had to try it, since I am Irish. This dish was GREAT. The whole family loved it; it was creamy and buttery with just a little tang from the rutabagas. The only mistake I made was that since the recipe didn't specify how to cut the onions, I just cut them into rings. When I mixed the onions into the rutabaga mix, I realized I should have chopped them. Thank you, Bergy, for this delicious recipe!

Lost the oil. Lost the butter. Added butter buds in place of that and used soymilk to smooth it. cooked the onions in a bit of water. Turned out great. took the modifications well

Oh the onions make it! I cut back on the butter (substantially — gotta watch my fats), but I didn't miss it one bit with the sweet rutabagas. Why does something that look so bad taste so good? Excellent side dish, I'll do it again and again. Bergy, perfect!
