I got this recipe from an old Georgia Boy that was transplanted in Tennessee, he is 72 and says he grew up on this sandwich.

Directions

  1. 1
In the peak of tomato season, chill 1 very large or 2 medium size tomatoes that have been vine-ripened and have plenty juice.
  2. 2
Take 2- slices of bread and coat them with 1/4 inch good mayonnaise.
  3. 3
Add layer of tomatoes cut 1/4 inch thick.
  4. 4
    Salt & Pepper to taste.
  5. 5
Add another slice of tomatoes and salt and pepper to taste again.
  6. 6
Add the other piece of bread on top of this.
  7. 7
Roll up your sleeves and start eating over the kitchen sink while the juice runs down your elbows.

I ate so many of these last summer that my mouth developed blisters from the tomato acid. (Citrus fruits do the same thing to me). I would stop for a few days, then start on the tomato sandwiches again. They are so simple, but yet so wonderful.

One of my mostest bestest favorites! Tomato acid has a tendency to blister my mouth(strawberries do the same thing), so I sometimes add sweet pickles and/or lettuce to my sandwiches counteract the affect. Ends up like a Veggie Whopper, but much better! I also love adding cheese! Sometimes I'll put my sandwich on the George Foreman grill for a couple of minutes to melt the cheese and toast it up a bit.

This is one of my all time favorite sandwiches to eat in the summertime. Beefsteak tomatoes with that lovely acidic taste combined with that tangy Miracle Whip. To be daring, sometimes I add a slice of Texas 1015's. Have a handtowel ready, as paper towels can't keep up. 5*'s all the way!
