Green beans, coated with yummy breadcrumbs, fried till golden brown and served with creamy wasabi dipping sauce, hungry yet? Adapted from Secret Recipes.

SERVES 4 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Wasabi Cucumber Ranch Dip

Green Beans

Directions

  1. 1
Combine dip ingredients in blender. Blend until smooth.
  2. 2
Place in bowl; cover and chill till ready to use. Dip will thicken as it chills.
  3. 3
    Place beans in the broth.
  4. 4
Bring to a boil and cook 15 minutes, then place in cold water to stop cooking process.
  5. 5
Mix beaten egg with milk in a shallow bowl.
  6. 6
Measure 1 cup of flour into another shallow bowl.
  7. 7
Combine bread crumbs, 3/4 teaspoons salt, black pepper, onion powder and garlic powder into a third bowl.
  8. 8
Take a handful of beans out of the water and shake off excess liquid.
  9. 9
Coat the beans with the flour, shaking to remove excess flour.
  10. 10
Dip the beans, one at a time, into egg/milk mixture, then dip in breadcrumb mixture.
  11. 11
Place the beans on a plate until all are coated.
  12. 12
Heat the shortening or oil to 350°F in a heavy skillet(or use deep fryer). Use enough to cover the beans, about 1 1/2 inches.
  13. 13
Fry until golden brown, about 1 1/2 minutes.
  14. 14
    Drain on paper towels.
  15. 15
To serve, place on a large platter and serve with the wasabi cucumber ranch dip. Enjoy!

YUM YUM...GREAT snacking food while watching a movie. I made the dip as stated with 1% milk. I tried making the green beans healthier and think they turned out very good. I microwaved the beans in their bag for 4 minutes then put in cold water. I mixed twice the amount of spices with whole wheat flour and again with whole wheat panko bread crumbs. After coating the beans, I put them on a spray oiled cookie sheet and spray oiled the tops of them and baked them at 400F for 20 minutes. While the panko bread crumbs didn't completely coat them they were nice and crunchy. Coating each bean did take awhile but I think a kid might enjoy doing it. Made for the Beverage tag game.

I was really hoping that these would be like Fridays because they are sooo yummy. I was disappointed tho. The green beans dont taste at all like Fridays. I still think there needs to be some tweaking to the recipe. The wasabi sauce also did not taste anything like Fridays sauce. It just tasted like a kicked up ranch. It also never did thicken like it says it should. I give this 3 stars just because I threw them all away after making a batch. This is an okay recipe but nothing that I would like to make again.

Excellent! Though, I have to wonder who invented frying a STRING BEAN! Sauce was fantastic, beans were great! Excellent appetizer, but it does take some time to bread all the beans.
