Super Grilled "cuban" Midnight Sandwich

Recipe #165220 | 20 min | 15 min prep | add private note

"This sandwich is called a 'Media Noche' which translates to 'Midnight.' It is not exactly a "traditional" Cuban sandwich, for those of you fortunate to have had one, but this one makes a wonderful dinner sandwich because it is served hot. A nice side dish is black bean soup or black beans and rice, and plantain chips. COOKS NOTE: Bust out your Foreman Grill, or Panini Press! Please note: this is an adopted recipe and I hope to make it soonest. If you make it before I do, I would appreciate feedback, Thanks ! ZWT REGION: Cuba.

We really enjoyed this sandwich. It was simple to put together and it tasted great! Sorta reminds me of a Ham and Swiss melt, but with a bit more to it. We used a foreman to press our sandwich and though it didn't give such lovely grill marks it worked out well. We took the advice of others and cut back on the measurements and sorta eyeballed it more to what we'd normally put on a sandwich and we only made two of them. My husband claims he has been making them like this for years, but I say they were only similar. Definately a keeper!

This was great and the whole family loved it. I took another reviewer's advice and reduced the amount of mayonnaise by half. I will be preparing this again. Thanks for posting.

This was wonderful!! We used ciabatta bread and halved the mayo mixture as there were only two of us. Also used colby jack cheese as DH doesn't like swiss. But this had a great flavor and was so easy to fix! We will definitely be making these again...and again...and again!
