Natural No-Bake Peanut Butter Energy Bars.

This is a bar recipe I found on a health and fitness site. The original recipe made it a protein bar, but when I made it (ages ago) I didn't have any so I left it out. If you want to make it a protein bar simply add 2 cups of protein powder and add an extra 1/2 cup of honey. This is a good bar for straight after an intense workout, but it tastes like a dessert so even if you're not active you can make it just as a snack bar or treat.

16 bars (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Combine peanut butter and honey in a large nonstick pot and warm up over a low heat until runny and mixed.
  2. 2
Mix in the oatmeal (and protein powder if using).
  3. 3
You don't want to cook it, just heat it up enough to stir everything together nicely.
  4. 4
    Press into a 9x9-inch pan.
  5. 5
Let cool, then cut into 16 equal bars.
  6. 6
Wrap each bar in foil and store in plastic bags. - No need to refrigerate as the ingredients are natural.

These have become a staple in our house. They're so easy to put together and I love that I know all the ingredients in them, unlike the energy bars in the store. I do cut the honey down to 5/8 cup because I don't like them too sweet and because we like the firm chewy texture they have with less honey. I also add 1/2 cup of ground flax seeds. I keep them individually wrapped in the fridge for on on-the-go snack, but have no problem with them at room temperature when we grab them for later - they're just not as firm then. We like them better than store-bought, and I haven't tried adding protein powder or other mix-ins yet because they're such a hit this way!

Nice bar.. made some adjustments though.. I've used 1.5 cup oats and 1 cup rice krispies, I made my own 'peanut' butter from almonds and cashewnuts and than added a bit of brown sugar to the honey/PB mixture. So a mix of kittencal's bar and this one. I did add a bit of protein powder but won't next time cause mine was strawberry taste :o/ and I'm not so fond of pb and strawberry. Next time i'll add some raisins.

WOW!!! very very tasty.. I was just going through the new review's and saw this recipe reviewed by Charlie Rush I had everything on hand so I had to try..PLUS I need some energy.. these are so fast it is amost a sin and only 3 ingredients..( I didn't have any protein powder) I really like these.. I might keep these in the fridge though as on my natural peanut butter it says to refridgerate it.. but I'ld have no problem tucking one into my purse and leaving it there for when I want a quick snack thank you so much for sharing this recipe...It tastes GREAT now I'm hoping for a little energy boost..
