This one is a big favorite in our house. Makes a great gravy — perfect for sopping up with a hunk of rye bread!

SERVES 4 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Place brisket fat side up into slow cooker, sprinkle garlic powder on top and rub ketchup generously into brisket.
  2. 2
Add onion slices all around and on top of meat, add enough water to coat the bottom of the cooker.
  3. 3
Cook on low, all day, for the most tender brisket you will ever eat.
  4. 4
For gravy, remove brisket and turn thermostat to high.
  5. 5
Mix flour with 1/4 cup water, add to pot and bring to a boil, stirring constantly.

Had a little too much garlic powder for my liking. Other than an abundance of garlic powder, a good dish.

This is a great, EASY roast recipe and I loved that it cooked while I was sleeping! I put it up before I went to bed and took it out after my morning coffee. It was tender and the amount of gravy was perfect. I will definitely be making this again (this week!) - thank you!

This came our really great after 8 hours in the slow cooker. My brisket was larger than the bottom of my oval shaped slow cooker, and and wrapped up the ends of the pot, but the lid fit and after cooking the brisket shrank into the pot. My only change was to add a packet of onion soup mix to 1 cup of water. The brisket was so tender that it was hard to slice without it shredding (and I have very sharp knives!) The gravy was wonderful. I followed the directions to thicken with only 1 Tbsp of flour and it came out perfect. There is a lot of fat in this delicious gravy, so next time I may try skimming it off before thickening it.

just like mama used to make! this is great in the crockpot, 5 minutes of prep, i let it cook for 10 hrs on low, which was actually too long, so we just shredded it added the gravy and it was delicious. some of the kids put it on hamburger rolls, we ate it with french bread. thanks mirj
