This was a hearty dish, and while I'd agree that the flavours are subtle, I don't think they're in anyway complex. To be honest, they border a bit on bland. Maybe if the onions had actually been caramelized (as in the description of the recipe but not in the actual instructions) rather than browned, it would have had more flavour. Sorry Semra22, this just didn't do it for us.
