A few household items that amazling cleans silver. I had a badly tarnished dish that these few items cleaned right up.

2 cups (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
    Combine the above ingredients in a clean kitchen sink.
  2. 2
    Put your tarnished silver and silver plated items into the sink and let sit for a few minutes.
  3. 3
    Watch as the tarnish disappears from the silverware and reappears on the foil.
  4. 4
    Rinse extremely well with water to prevent pitting of silverplate.
  5. 5
    Magic!

I found that the version of the recipe without salt and with more baking soda worked better. Salt is caustic to silver, so it seems like if baking soda works just as well (though it does have salt in it as well) it might be better to avoid pure salt.

    I've used this exact same recipe for long time and find it the easiest method ever. The water must be HOT, and soaking time depends on the amount of tarnish.

    This really worked like a charm. As you can tell in the pictures I submitted that my silver was in need of a miracle worker, but yet in the after picture they look lots better. It did take some scrubing and buffing in the end as I had some intricate areas to clean. Thanks a whole bunch DoryJean54....

    My champagne flutes were badly tarnished. I tried this & wow! What a difference. There is a slight bad egg smell due to the chemical reactions, but nothing overwhelming. Being impatient & wanting to see results quicker, I took the tinfoil & rubbed it on the metal & my impatience was rewarded. Great recipe to sparkle up my silver. Thank you - -I will use again and again.
