This is so easy to make. It uses simple ingredients you normally have on hand.

4 loaves (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Dissolve yeast and 1 cup warm water in a large mixing bowl. Let rest 10-15 minutes.
  2. 2
Add salt, sugar, shortening and 3 1/3 cups warm water.
  3. 3
Gradually mix in 10 cups of flour. Add up to 2 more cups until dough is no longer sticky.
  4. 4
Knead for 10 minutes. Cover the bowl and let rise for 1 hour until dough doubles in size.
  5. 5
Punch down dough, form into 4 loaves, place into loaf pans and let rise again until double in size(about an hour).
  6. 6
Place in preheated oven at 375 degrees and bake until golden brown (about 35 Minutes).
  7. 7
This recipe also works well halfed.
  8. 8
For whole wheat bread, substitute 4 cups of whole wheat flour mixed with 6 to 8 cups of white flour.
  9. 9
I cool slice and freeze the extra laoves for later.

The only problem with this recipe is that my husband complians if I buy store bought bread! I let it rise twice before putting it in loaf pans, I also cut the salt in half. it was great texture a wonderful all-purpose bread, even for pb&j!

Delicious and easy! My family loved this bread. My son asked if I put a secret ingredient in it to make it taste so good! Thanks for sharing!

This is the first yeast bread I have ever been successful with! If I can do it anyone can. Be sure to grease your loaf pan before baking. It is not written in the recipe but sure does help!

Absolutely MARVELOUS! I cut the recipe in half and worked out well. Tonight I made my 2 loaves again, this time I used just 1 cup water and 2/3 cup soy milk...MUUUCCCHHHHH better; so light and fluffy! A definite winner in my home. Thanks!
