Grandma's Homemade Macaroni and Cheese

Recipe #14471 | 1 hour | 15 min prep | add private note

By: Kat1
Nov 18, 2001

My Grandmother's delightful and VERY TASTY recipe for macaroni in cheese, which is FAR better than the kind right out of the box. Our whole family enjoys this recipe, especially the kids. She often has to make twice the recipe to satisfy just my grandpa and uncles!

SERVES 4 -6 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
    Cook macaroni until soft.
  2. 2
Use a large roast-pan or bowl which you would cook casseroles in the oven, and put a thin layer of macaroni upon the bottom, and then spread cheese over that layer, and repeat this layering process until the cheese and macaroni are gone (makes about 3-4 layers each).
  3. 3
Mix salt, pepper, eggs and milk together.
  4. 4
Pour into layered macaroni & cheese, until filled at the top (or until it is gone).
  5. 5
    Sprinkle w/ paprika on top.
  6. 6
Place in oven, Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes (covered).
  7. 7
    Enjoy!

It was great! Easy ingredients that I had on hand. My fiance really enjoyed it too. I plan on making it for Thanksgiving. Thanks for the recipe!

It wasn't the worst recipe I've ever tried, but I won't me using it again. I found it a bit bland. I tried it twice. The second time I tried adding extra cheese, but it was still lacking. Perhaps a combination of cheeses would have been an improvement.

Easy tasty Mac & Cheese, I cut the recipe in half with no problem. Half way through the baking I gave the caserole a stir to evenly distribute the cheese (I don't think I devided the cheese evenly when I layered it) and I removed the lid for the last 15 minutes. Thanks Kat1 for posting
