Christmas Time Cookies

Recipe #14466 | 35 min | 20 min prep | add private note

By: Kat1
Nov 18, 2001

THE best cookies I have ever had at Christmas time! Make them in any shape, and they are sure to make your kids, friends, or family reach out for another one! Decorate them in anyway you want to add that special "something" to your holiday!

20 -30 cookies (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Combine flour, baking powder and salt.
  2. 2
Blend in shortening and nutmeg; add sugar in 1/4 creaming after each addition until fluffy.
  3. 3
Add egg and milk to mixture, stirring until blended.
  4. 4
    Chill for 15 minutes.
  5. 5
Place dough on lightly floured board and roll until it is about 1/4-inch thick.
  6. 6
Cut cookies (use any cookie cutters, we often use the "christmas tree" shape) Place cookies on cookie sheet.
  7. 7
Bake at 375° for about 12-15 minutes until pale golden.

Everyone else reviews these so highly that i can't help but wonder if it's "just me", but these just don't do it for me. There's something about the texture that i didn't like, they were bland and more dry-crumbly than crispy. My son concurred that these were merely "ok", and we won't be making them again. Sorry.

These cookies are delicious. The nutmeg is what makes them so good. Highly recommend this recipe.

Nice cookies. They are rather crispy, and I found if I baked them for 12 minutes, it was really too long, so I stopped at 10 with the second batch. The dough is really nice to work with though for using cookie cutters and I prefer the taste to a plain old sugar cookie.
