Crock Pot Apple Butter

Recipe #143307 | ½ day | 30 min prep | add private note

I like this recipe for the taste and because it all fits into my 4 quart crock pot (packed). After the batch is done, I can them into jars for home use and gifts. To make it easier on myself, I use my spiral apple peeler/corer.

3 pint jars (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Place apples in slow cooker in thirds, layering sugar between each layer.
  2. 2
Add rest of ingredients on top and pack them down as well as you can.
  3. 3
Cover and cook on high for 1 hour.
  4. 4
Reduce heat to low. Open and give it a stir. Keep covered and cook 8 hours or until thick and dark brown, stirring occasionally. (You can do this overnight and can in the morning).
  5. 5
Uncover and cook for the last hour on low.
  6. 6
If a smoother apple butter is desired, you may puree in blender or food mill.
  7. 7
Place in sterile jars with lids and process for 10 minutes in hot water bath or you can freeze.
  8. 8

Never made apple butter before and this is super easy. I didn't have enough white sugar, so I added about 1/4 cup of brown sugar also. Otherwise, the directions are great. thank you for sharing!

I made this almost exact. Except I got a late start and cooked on high for 3.5 hours, then low for a half an hour. Used an electric hand mixer in the crock to blend. Canned it. And it came out delicious! Looks gorgeous too. Thanks!

Talk about knock your socks off. We love this! My husband asked how easy it was for me to make because he wants it on a regular basis. I actually only made half a batch because I got tired of peeling, coring and slicing the apples. Luckily, my husband appreciates tools that make my job easier (I do too) so I now have an apple peeler/corer/slicer. Even without it I would make this again and again. YUM! Thanks for sharing.

I just finished canning my very first batch and did a little "spill" sampling. This recipe is wonderful! I made one tiny addition- six drops of caramel food flavoring. That addition just took this recipe over the top. I highly recommend this easy-to-follow and very tasty recipe. One other thing, use a variety of apples when you make this. I used three of each of the following: MacIntosh, Granny Smith, Fuji, and Cortland.
