Turkish coffee is not just limited to turkey, but is a traditional drink all over the middle east. You can buy freshly roasted and prepared coffee beans while you wait turkish coffee from most middle eastern grocers in the united states. They usually use a combo blend of light and dark coffee beans and grind cardomom up in it at the same time. You can even purchase turkish coffee pots that turkish coffee is made in at most grocers. If you dont have a turkish coffee pot, dont worry, you can use any pot. This recipe is the next best thing.*Measurements are approximate, so you may add or decrease according to taste buds*

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Place water and sugar in a large enough pot to boil the water.
  2. 2
Make sure you allow room, because boiling coffee tends to want to boil up and over.
  3. 3
Once boil is acheived, add coffee, very slowly, and decrease heat.
  4. 4
    Stir coffee very frequently.
  5. 5
When making it, I let it comes to a boil and when it starts to boil up the pot I take it off the burner for 2 seconds, then repeat the steps 3-4 times.
  6. 6
    Serve in demitasse cups.
  7. 7
*Do not leave coffee boiling on stove unattended, it WILL boil over*.
  8. 8
*If serving for a large group, just double or triple the recipe accordingly*.

This is a very tasty drink. It's a nice change from a regular cup of coffee.

In our home we refer to this type of coffee as Greek. Your recipe Fifi, seems to be more effective in obtaining the "Wish" or face of foam on the top of the poured coffee. I believe it may be because you boil the water first. I use a Kanaka which is a narrow necked coffee pot made of copper, and my tip to ensure that the coffee grounds remain at the bottom of the cup is to add a few drops of rosewater to each cup. With the cardamom this tastes wonderful!! Thank you so much for this recipe, an essential after a Friday evening meal!

Cardamom in anything is going to be good. At least for me! I drink my coffee black and unsweetened but with this strong coffee I suggest the sugar! I strained it into a regular coffee cup for I don`t have a demitasse cup! Thanks for the boost!

Thank you Chef Fifi. I have been having a craving for this coffee with Cardamom that a friend of mine brought back with him from Israel about 10 years ago and no one knew what I was talking about. This is exactly it. Thanks a million. This is an itch scratched...
