Balsamic-Glazed Oranges

Recipe #135349 | 6 min | 5 min prep | SERVES 4 (Change Servings)

RECIPE BY: justcallmetoni

While the combination strawberries with balsamic vinegar is common in many dishes, the sweet-acidic balance of the vinegar pairs well with other fruits. This dessert whips up in a heartbeat and is the perfect ending to an Italian meal.

Posted on: Aug 29, 2005

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 4 sweet oranges
  • Directions

    1. 1
Peel oranges removing all of the pith from the outside. Cut across grain into 1/4 inch slices, removing seeds.
    2. 2
Place sugar and vinegar in a small saucepan and bring to boil. Stir constantly with a large spoon. Allow it to continue with a low boil until volume is halved (1/4 cup).
    3. 3
Divide orange slices evenly between 4 plates. Drizzle with glaze.

I picked up a bag of Blood Oranges and a bag of Pink Grapefruit from Trader Joe's this earlier this week. The combination with the drizzled Balsamic Glaze is such a treat I keep forgetting it is healthy. I am so hooked on it that I had to rate this recipe and thank you for sharing it!

A fabulous ZWT2 find! So simple; so delicious! We love citrus flavours so I'll be making this often. I used 3 oranges and one grapefruit. And we thoroughly enjoyed it with a generous dollop of Greek yoghurt. Thanks for sharing!

Complex flavor wake up your mouth. This is very easy. I used oranges and grapfruit. I had it for breakfast! Is that cheating? Dessert at breakfast! I found the glaze could have be halved easily. I did reduce to 1/4 cup and it goes a long way! This sweetens up the grapfruit. Thanks!
