Basic Graham Cracker Crust

Recipe #134190 | 15 min | 5 min prep | add private note

Originally from the Fanny Farmer Baking Book. I use it for my Lemon Meringue and Key Lime Pies. I don't usually add the cinnamon but it is an option.

SERVES 8 , 1 8 or 9-inch pie crust (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Combine cracker crumbs and sugar in a bowl, then add the butter and optional cinnamon.
  2. 2
Stir with a fork until crumbs are moistened.
  3. 3
Empty the mixture in the pie plate, then pat and press mixture evenly all around the bottom and sides of the plate.
  4. 4
Before filling, either bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 8-10 minutes or chill for about an hour.
  5. 5
(You simply want the crust to be firm and both baking and chilling will do that, although I prefer baking.).

This worked perfectly. Thanks for providing both the cup measure and the number of graham crackers needed for the crumbs. I used the refrigeration method with perfect results.

Made this using McVitie's Digestives - 10 biscuits produced more or less exactly the 1,5 cups needed. Skipped the cinnamon, used in Key Lime Pie, worked perfectly! Thanks Marg!

Excellent all-purpose graham cracker crust. For heaven's sake, use this one, not the store-bought cardboard-tasting ones.

You dont need the cinnamon if you use cinnamon graham crackers to crush! Yummy, thanks for sharing!
