French Toast Sticks - OAMC

Recipe #125399 | 35 min | 10 min prep | add private note

I got this basic recipe from another site but changed it a little for my family. The original recipe called for orange juice as the liquid instead of milk. I also added the vanilla as we think it gives it a nice flavor.

SERVES 8 , 24 sticks (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. 2
Cut each slice of bread into 3 pieces to make sticks. Texas Toast is a very thick sliced bread about 3/4" thick. You could substitute french bread if Texas toast is not available.
  3. 3
In a bowl, mix together melted butter, eggs, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and milk. Beat well.
  4. 4
Dip sticks into egg mixture and place on a cookie sheet that has been sprayed with cooking spray.
  5. 5
If there is any dip left, you can drizzle it over the sticks.
  6. 6
Bake for 25 minutes on middle rack of oven. Turn halfway through baking time.
  7. 7
    Allow to cool.
  8. 8
Flash freeze on cookie sheet, remove and place in a ziploc bag.
  9. 9
To reheat: place 3 sticks on a microwave-safe plate and heat on high for 1 minute until warm. Serve with syrup.

These are great- makes for a very quick & easy breakfast on school mornings. Plus it beats the price you pay for them from the store!

This was a quick dinner for us. The kids ate these just as fast as they came out of the oven. I forgot to add the butter and I still think they turned out great. Thanks!

I recently started something a bit different with the cinnamon and thought this might make a neat suggestion. Instead of incorporating the cinnamon into the "batter", dust it over the slices of bread and then cut it into sticks, dipping into the "batter" after that. I will be trying this recipe and then updating my review. -Azure!

My kids went crazy for these French Toast sticks and they're begging for more! I used Texas Toast and followed the recipe exactly. They bake to such nice, golden brown. We ate them right away, but I will be making another batch for the freezer - if the kids don't eat them first. These have got to be healthier than the French Toast sticks I buy at the grocery store and much more affordable. Thank you so much for such a family friendly recipe.
