I came across this recipe a while ago and think it will be a great Father's Day meal. Recipe source: Coyote Cafe

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Bring steaks to room temperature before grillng.
  2. 2
Soak onons in milk for one hour, drain.
  3. 3
In a large bowl or pie pan mix together flour, chile powder, cornstarch, salt, cumin, sugar and paprika.
  4. 4
Dredge onions in flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
  5. 5
Heat oil in a large heavy frying pan (cast iron works well) and heat to 360-degrees F.
  6. 6
Add onions in batches, cooking until golden brown --BE CAREFUL - they cook fast (30-45 seconds). Transfer onion rings to paper towels to drain off excess grease.
  7. 7
Meanwhile, season steaks with salt and pepper and place in a cast iron skillet over medium high heat. Cook about 7-10 minutes per side, pouring off excess fat before turning. Finish cooking steaks on the grill (or skip the frying step and just grill steaks to desired doneness (10 minutes per side).
  8. 8
Serve steaks with onion rings, baked potatoes and salsa, or as desired.

Wonderful. We had unexpected company so I only got about a fourth of my steak, but you can bet your boots I got my share of the onion rings. The combination of spices was right on. I cut my onions thin and they came out really crispy. Loved them. Thanks ellie for another wonderful recipe.

This was awesome! The onion rings are the perfect combination with the steak. A little bit of spice to heat things up and you've got yourself a great man pleaing meal! My cowboys loved it!
