Microwave Birdy Bread Cones

Recipe #122049 | 10 min | 10 min prep | add private note

I stumbled across this recipe and just HAD to make it for my feathered friends. My birds, 2 cockatiels, a cockatoo and a lovebird, go wild for this stuff. Those guys eat better than the human members of my family..lol. I love them dearly and really enjoy cooking up things to please them. Only the lovebird does not seem to care for this recipe, choosing a different birdy bread recipe for himself (the little gourmet) This is made in a microwave and takes about 30 seconds to make. Serve only as a treat!!***This recipe calls for 1/4 cup Rainbow Exact Pellets (available at pet store) but I was unable to list them as they are not exactly a "common" ingredient.

1 batch cones (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
In a tall bowl, stir together the egg (no shells), applesauce, and corn muffin mix until moistened. Stir in pellets and raisins.
  2. 2
With a spoon, fill an ice cream cone 2/3rds full of the batter.
  3. 3
Cook one at a time in the microwave on high (800 wats) for 30 seconds. Top with a decoration like a Cheerio or a large Pellet.
  4. 4
The inside is very hot. Let the cone with birdy bread inside cool completely before feeding to your parrots.

I made these but I think my microwave is not the right wattage as the cones kind of melted before the muffins were done. And my birds were put off by the sight of them. Luckily, I only did two cones and I baked the remaining batter in a mini muffin tin! My parrots love them now! They each get 1/2 mini muffin every morning with their fresh vegies and fruits. Thanks Birdy

My DD and I made these last night for her babysitter's birds. They are so cute and easy to make, and the kids can really jump in an mix these up. I added the 1/4 cup of pellets as well, just a different type. Thanks for a cute recipe!
