Kittencal's Milk Boiled Corn on the Cob

Recipe #121897 | 15 min | 5 min prep | add private note
KITTENCAL

By: KITTENCAL

A method I have been using for over 30 years, you will never boil corn in just water again once you try this, this method produces a very tender and sweet corn on the cob, I promise!

SERVES 6 -8 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 6-8 ears corn, husks and silk removed
  • water
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup whipping cream, unwhipped (or use 1-1/4 cups milk)
  • 1/3 cup sugar (can use more sugar)
  • 1/4 cup butter (optional and to add to the water)

Directions

  1. 1
Fill a large stock pot half full with water (use a large enough pot to hold all the corn).
  2. 2
Add in the cream, milk, sugar and butter.
  3. 3
Bring to a boil, then add in the corn cobs.
  4. 4
Reduce heat to a simmer and allow corn to cook for 7-8 minutes or until just tender, depending on size of corn try not to over cook the corn as it will become tough.
  5. 5
Using long tongs remove and place on a plate or in a bowl, then cover with foil until ready to serve.
  6. 6
Serve with butter and salt to taste.
  7. 7
    Delicious!

This was so good! I don't think I've ever had corn this way, but you can definitely taste the difference and I will do it this way from now on. I used all milk and used almost double the sugar. I also omitted the butter. I think next time I will try it with the whipping cream. Thanks Kittencal for another wonderful recipe!

I have fond memories of my Mom serving corn on the cob this way when I was small. She never measured, but I remembered that it was very similar to this one!

Excellent way to cook corn...only difference I've always used is brown sugar instead of white. Always tender, always sweet ...
