My Secret Ingredient Coleslaw

This is my own recipe for cole slaw. My secret ingredient gives it a little extra taste that everyone seems to like.

SERVES 10 -12 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
    Chop cabbage,carrots,onion and apple in food processor and transfer to large mixing bowl.
  2. 2
    Add celery seed,sugar,vinegar and mayonnaise to bowl.
  3. 3
    Salt and pepper to taste.
  4. 4
    Stir until well blended.
  5. 5
    Refrigerate until chilled and ready to serve.

Hey Chef #219653 Just because your Mother did it...doesn't mean everyone else in the world thought of it too!!!! I hadn't! and found this slaw to be GREAT! everyone said the apple made the slaw. Thanks again for what to me was a secret ingredient!!! Tapout

    My mother put apple in her coleslaw...and she has been dead 20 years....so it is not a sceret ingredient whatsoever...T.

    Very Good, I liked the idea of the apples in the slaw. The onion was a bit overpowering to the apples though. I think next time I'll leave the onion out. Note ~ I used 1/2 of a large head of cabbage and needed to double the dressing to get it to the right quantity for the amount of slaw.

    This was great, islandgirl. Only change I made was to add my secret ingredient, a few dried cranberries and lemon juice rather than vinegar.
