These delicious, tender biscuits have alot of flavour and a little heat. They are wonderful with any meal. Seriously, try them...you'll see.

Ingredients

  • package active dry yeast
  • tablespoons warm water
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • cup buttermilk
  • cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese or old nippy cheddar cheese
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons jalapeno pepper, minced
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons sweet onion, finely chopped
  • Topping

    Directions

      Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

      Dissolve yeast in 2 tbsps of warm water.

      Set aside.
    4. 4
      In large bowl add flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, garlic powder and salt.

      Cut in butter, until well blended.
    6. 6
      Next, lightly stir in buttermilk and yeast mixture.

      Now add the shredded cheese, finely chopped onions and minced peppers.

      Beat well.

      On a lightly floured board knead until a smooth dough forms.

      Then roll dough 1/2 thick and cut into two inch squares.

      Place biscuits on a lightly greased sheet and brush with melted butter.

      Finally, sprinkle with paprika and dried thyme.

      Bake in a 450 degree oven for 10- 12 minutes or until golden brown.

    yummy! We really liked these. I added twice the jalapenos, and had to use about 1/2 cup of flour while kneading to keep the dough from sticking to my hands The dough before being cooked smelled so heavenly I was tempted to eat it without baking it LOL

    Oh I love them!!!!!!!!!! I had to use quite a bit more flour to get them workable, but it didn't affect the texture at all...they were wonderful!!!!

    Baby Kato ~ Yet again, another great recipe! I was tempted to cut back on the jalapeno peppers & to use a mild cheddar, but did neither, & was very pleased when I followed the recipe exactly & found the results to be very, very delicious! Thanks for posting!

    These are indeed delicious and tender! The only thing I might do differently next time is saute my onions first. I had a hard time stopping myself from eating them when they were fresh from the oven. Thanks for a great recipe!
