Danish Meatballs With Creamy Dill Sauce

Recipe #110710 | 1¼ hours | 30 min prep | add private note

I make this for the "boys" every year during the deer hunt. They talk about it the rest of the year! I like the rich creamy flavor too! This is a little work, but it could easily become a holiday tradition!

SERVES 8 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Creamy Dill Sauce

Directions

  1. 1
In a large bowl mix the meat, salt, pepper, eggs, onion and cream.
  2. 2
    (I use my kitchenaid).
  3. 3
With moistened hands (this will be sticky), shape into 1 inch balls.
  4. 4
Roll the meatballs in bread crumbs until well coated.
  5. 5
Arrange in a single layer on shallow baking pans.
  6. 6
Drizzle melted butter over the meatballs.
  7. 7
Bake at 375 degrees, turning 3 or 4 times, until evenly browned, about 35 minutes.
  8. 8
    Meanwhile, make the sauce:.
  9. 9
Melt butter in a large saucepan over low heat.
  10. 10
Whisk in the flour till smooth.
  11. 11
Gradually stir in the chicken broth.
  12. 12
Continue stirring until thickened and bubbly, then blend in sour cream, dill and seasonings.
  13. 13
Place meatballs in a serving dish and cover with the sauce.
  14. 14
    Serve over egg noodles.

WONDERFUL!! I went to a potluck party that was "Scandinavian" in theme and brought this as my dish. It was the hit of the party. The sauce was so good I almost drank it rather than putting it on the meatballs and taking it to the party (OK sick, I know but it was GOOD) I don't even LIKE dill I figured this would be a dish for everyone else to enjoy. The only thing I did different was I had Italian seasoned bread crumbs or Panko (Japanese bread crumbs) since I didn’t want to change the flavor of the sauce or meatballs by using the Italian seasoned bread crumbs I used the Panko. Wow! It worked wonderfully.

Oh so good. I made these last night and they were awesome. I loved the dill sauce over the top. Yummy, it made the meal. They were very rich but worth every calorie...lol. I will be making this again, thank you. Stephanie

Very good- I used ground turkey instead of pork and it worked well. My picky husband even liked it, which only supported my theory that he likes anything fattening! Very good- I am adding it to my collection. Thank you!
