Gift Brownie Mix - in a Jar

Recipe #106115 | 10 min | 10 min prep | 2 dozen (Change Servings)

RECIPE BY: Lorac

This version produces yummy brownies that are more chewy and less cake-like than other "in a jar" mixes. This year I made a dozen jars for gifts!

Posted on: Dec 14, 2004

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • teaspoon baking powder
  • teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chip
  • Ingredients to be added by the cook

    Directions

    1. 1
Wash and dry jars and lids in the dishwasher.
    2. 2
Mix together flour, baking powder, and salt in a quart jar, pack firmly and brush residue off the insides of the jar with a pastry brush.
    3. 3
Add cocoa, pack firmly and brush sides.
    4. 4
      Add sugar, pack and brush.
    5. 5
      Add chocolate chips and seal.
    6. 6
      Attach the following recipe:.
    7. 7
      1 jar brownie mix.
    8. 8
      1 cup butter melted.
    9. 9
      3 eggs.
    10. 10
      1 teaspoon vanilla.
    11. 11
      Preheat oven to 350°F.
    12. 12
Prepare a 9x13 inch baking pan by greasing and flouring.
    13. 13
Place brownie mix in a bowl and stir to mix.
    14. 14
Add butter, eggs and vanilla and mix until well blended.
    15. 15
Spead batter evenly in prepared pan.
    16. 16
      Bake 25-30 minutes.
    17. 17
      Cool completely before cutting.

Looks great, tastes awful! I made these last night, and they are so dense and cakey, I can't even bring myself to finish the pan - and that's saying a lot! Sorry! I really wanted to like these!

Made this one up for a pre-Christmas bake sale at the nursing home I work at...I DID change the choc chips to 1 cup of peanut butter chips for something a little different...It looked nice in the jar and within 10 minutes it had sold for a whopping $8! Thank you for sharing this recipe!

Fits perfectly in a liter jar which I topped off with some walnuts. Very classy, prettylooking jar. I hope it tastes as good as it looks and I'm sure it will. These are going to French people who will be surprised and I hope delighted by the idea.

Delicious brownies. I thought I'd make these to try before I made them up as gifts and they are very yummy and easy to put together. My 3 year old helper and I had heaps of fun mixing and making these! Lorac I hope you are going to help me clean my kitchen!!
