My daughter's favorite meal and one we all look forward to. The meat can be fried up a head of time and refrigerated until needed. Then just assemble and broil as directed.

SERVES 4 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Fry sandwich steaks in frying pan, stirring often.
  2. 2
When no longer pink, move to a plate lined with several paper towels.
  3. 3
Use more paper towels to press on them to help drain the excess grease.
  4. 4
On a baking sheet, lay steak or hoagie buns open flat.
  5. 5
Place sandwich steak strips on both halves.
  6. 6
Top sandwich steak with white American cheese and then provolone cheese.
  7. 7
Place under broiler about 5-6 minutes or until cheese has melted and it starting to brown.
  8. 8
Top with peppers and/or onions, if desired, and mayonnaise.

This has become one of my DH favorite meals. This is very easy to put together and delicious. I alway fry my steak-ums and then put them on a hamburger roll. This is a very nice change and not that much harder. Thanks for posting this wonderful recipe. We will be making this often. Update: 11/14/07 I made these and added fried mushrooms to my sandwich, very good!

These were good but a bit on the dry side. Seemed like they were missing something.

Very, very nice Marg/Cayman Designs, adding the extra cheese (provolone) made a big difference to how I usually make these. Thank You!

These were great, Marg! I always wanted to make cheese steaks, but didn't know how to get that restaurant-taste. This was it. I couldn't find any white processed cheese besides the Kraft swiss singles. Those worked just fine. Followed your instructions exactly and they were just delicious. The mayo in there adds just the right creaminess. We'll definitely make these again...next time with steak rolls (I used hotdog buns).
