This is the most delicious coleslaw that you will ever have! I make this for weddings, large socials and in the summer for BBQ's and parties, and there is never anything left it all goes and everyone wants the recipe! --- plan ahead the coleslaw needs to be refrigerated for the stated time to blend the flavors, this coleslaw will intensify in flavor with chilling time --- what makes this coleslaw stand out from all others is the fresh lemon juice so please use only fresh I have used bottled in the past and it is just not the same, for extra flavor add in a chopped apple and toasted walnuts just before serving ---- low-fat mayonnaise and buttermilk may be used successfully for this recipe, also fat-free half and half may be used

Ingredients

DRESSING

Directions

  1. 1
In a food processor chop the cabbage into small pieces (should look like about the size of confetti) or shred the cabbage.
  2. 2
Transfer to a large mixing bowl.
  3. 3
With a fine shredder, shred the peeled carrots; add to the cabbage in the bowl.
  4. 4
Chop the green onion finely; add to the cabbage/carrot mixture along with the celery seed.
  5. 5
Mix the three veggies all together with a wooden spoon.
  6. 6
To make the dressing: in a medium glass bowl whisk together all the dressing ingredients starting with the lower amounts then adding in and adjusting to suit taste but using 1/3 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar.
  7. 7
Pour over the veggies in the bowl, and mix well to combine.
  8. 8
Store covered in the refrigerator for at least 8 hours or overnight (overnight is better) to blend flavours.

With all of the glowing comments, I was really expecting a stunner. Unfortunately, this recipe doesn't deliver. I made it exactly as described and it may have been better if I added another 2 or 3 cups of cabbage and other veggies. As presented, it was very wet and the garlic was over-powering. I tossed the leftovers and will look further.

Five Stars all for the dressing. It's AMAZING! It starts out sweet and a bit sour in your mouth and as you chew, you can feel the lemon and cream and pepper follow up and blend nicely. It's the best coleslaw dressing I've ever tasted. Being an avid fan of sweets rather than sours however, I refrained from adding green onions or celery seeds and stuck with the cabbage and carrot (and a tad of dried onion flakes), but that's just me! All in all, a recipe worth safekeeping! Thank you KITTENCAL!

Hi KITTEN; This is the best Coleslaw that I have ever had. Some many years ago, the WHITE SPOT used to have a similar Coleslaw but not near as good as yours. The blending of the dressing ingredients is excellent. The celery seed is a super-great addition to the coleslaw. This recipe deserves more than 5 stars and I shall consider it at least a 10 star. Thank you for sharing this marvelous recipe with us. "Uncle Bill"

You promised and you are right! I'm the only one in the house who will eat cole slaw(cold slob-the kids say!)and I'm going to eat this whole recipe (in a matter of several days, of course! LOL!) I didn't have any buttermilk or 1/2 and 1/2 so I used 1 cup cottage cheese and 1 cup milk and blended all the dressing in the blender. MAGNIFICO!
