Even though this is an easy one--it's actually really good!

SERVES 4 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb hamburger
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion

  • 1 (10 3/4 ounce) can tomato soup, undiluted
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 lb French bread
  • 1-2 tablespoon butter
  • 8 ounces Velveeta cheese, sliced

Directions

  1. 1
Cook hamburger and onion, drain grease.
  2. 2
Add soup and spices, simmer 5-10 minutes.
  3. 3
Meanwhile, slice top third off bread, hollow out bottom half of loaf, leaving a 3/4-inch shell, save bread chunks, or feed to the birds!
  4. 4
Spread top slice of bread (cut side), with butter.
  5. 5
Place hollowed out bread on cookie sheet and broil till lightly browned.
  6. 6
Take out of oven and fill with meat mixture, top with cheese slices.
  7. 7
Place buttered top next to it, put back in oven at 350º; bake till heated through and top is toasted a little.
  8. 8
Put the top on, slice into wide slices for sandwiches, about 4-5 inches wide.
  9. 9
    4-6 servings.

It was good. I added 1 tbls of worchestershire to add a little zing. It's quick to make as written. A good weeknight sandwich to serve with some soup.

This was an interesting recipe to try. I left out the onions but added onion powder to the soup. I then used provolone instead of velveeta. I will definitely used the velveeta next time.

Wonderful!!! We really liked this quick and easy "cheeseburger!" I also upped the spices because we are also spice fiends. I baked a loaf of french bread (Fabulous French Bread) for this and the whole meal was outstanding!

Mmmmmm Mmmmmm! Delicious! I made this for supper as part of your cook-a-thon and we really enjoyed it. I used a multigrain bread instead of french bread. I had some leftover mushrooms that I added to my piece (I'm the only one who likes them) and it was my own personal mushroom topped cheeseburger. Thanks for sharing this recipe and get better soon
